When to Get an Ultrasound
Before getting an abortion, it is important to get an ultrasound to confirm the following things about your pregnancy:

How far along you are, which impacts the types of procedures available to you as well as the risk of side-effects.

Location of pregnancy. A pregnancy growing outside the uterus is a life-threatening condition requiring immediate medical care. The abortion pill does not work on this kind of pregnancy. An ultrasound confirms that the pregnancy is growing inside the uterus.
