An options consultation is a supportive conversation.

It's designed to empower you when you don't feel sure about whether or not you'll carry your pregnancy to term.  It's also helpful if you want to carry to term but are questioning whether or not parenting is the right option for you right now.

You may feel uncertain if you weren't planning to get pregnant right now (about 40% of pregnancies are unintended (citation)) or if circumstances related to your pregnancy have changed.  You may also be experiencing pressure from someone who wants you to have an abortion.

When you find out you are pregnant, you may feel many different emotions.  This is normal!  Now take a deep breath.  You genuinely have several options and many resources available to you. When it comes to getting you support, we're on your team!  We will listen to you without judgement as you sort through your possible paths.

What should I expect?

What should I expect?

Expect to be welcomed regardless of your situation.  You will have the opportunity to share what is on your mind.  We will ask questions about your needs and listen to the answers.  We will work to provide resources for you in the best way possible.  We will also help you explore your options so you can decide what is best for you.

Education that may be offered to help you make an informed decision:

  • Education about the natural processes going on in your body during pregnancy

  • Explanations of abortion procedures, including the pill (we don't show any graphic content).

  • Information about what modern adoption is and is not.

  • Videos and/or worksheets to help you think about your goals and values

  • Information about programs and resources that can help you with housing, food, counseling and more

You deserve to feel safe and supported; you are always allowed to say "yes" or "no" to any information that may be shared.

Deciding what to do about a pregnancy is a major decision, and every option has the potential to affect you in different ways physically, emotionally, and psychologically.  You deserve to be listened to, to ask questions, and to have all the information.  We are committed to answering your questions; providing practical, accurate information; and connecting you to needed resources.

Call or text us at 509-767-7379 or stop by today.

What are my options?

The three main pregnancy options are abortion, adoption, and parenting:

  • Abortion:

    • At your request, we can provide you with information about different procedures and risks.

    • Before taking the abortion pill, it is important to have an ultrasound to reduce the risk of an undetected ectopic pregnancy and to get an accurate picture of gestational age.  We provide free ultrasounds.  If you would like to talk to someone who has had an abortion, let us know.

    • Goldendale Pregnancy Resource Center does not provide or refer for abortions.

  • Adoption:

    • Exploring the opportunity of adoption can help you choose a great future for your baby.  To watch real stories of women who chose adoption, click here.

    • Adoption is not the same as foster care.  You are in the driver's seat when choosing someone to parent your child.

    • If you choose to pursue this option, you have the power to choose a family, as well as how much contact you will have with your child. We will help you understand your rights in making an adoption plan.

    • We can help refer you to an adoption agency if you feel this is the best decision for you.

    • Choosing another person to parent your child can come with many emotions.  We are here to listen and support you whatever decision you make.  You have time to slow down and consider this option.

  • Parenting:

    • Although parenting may sound overwhelming, you have the potential to be a great parent.  Our staff can work with you to help you understand your parenting options and direct you to area resources that can help.

    • Our video prenatal and parenting courses are taken at your own pace and give you useful information and tools to help you to be the best parent you can be.

    • If you want professional counseling, we can refer you.  Our staff will be there to support you through every step of the process.

Each of these options has the potential to affect you in different ways physically, emotionally, and psychologically.  As with any major decision, we recommend that you carefully explore your options.

Will I be pressured about my reproductive decisions?

There is never judgement here.  Some of of our staff and volunteers have experienced unplanned pregnancies before.  Some chose abortion, while others chose to carry.  All of them would be willing to talk with you about their experiences. We want you to feel comfortable and safe here.  We will not show you graphic images.  We do not profit from any of your reproductive or health decisions.

Will I be pressured about religious beliefs?

No. We provide welcoming and compassionate services regardless of whether or not you have a religious background. Faith-based services are available if you want them, but never required.

Can I bring a friend, my parents, or the baby's dad?

It is up to you!  For your privacy, we ask to begin the appointment with just you.  However, you can invite your guest to come in later during your consultation.  If you invite a guest, they will be able to hear what is talked about while they are present.

Is my appointment private?

We keep your information confidential. Even if you are a minor, information about whether or not you are pregnant or even if you are a client is kept private. Exceptions to confidentiality are listed in our privacy policy. If it would make you more comfortable, you are always welcome to schedule a consultation appointment outside of our regular hours. If you would prefer to enter through the private back entrance to our building at 122 West Main St, give us a call when you arrive so we can let you in.

What if someone is pressuring me to have an abortion?

Even if you are a minor, is illegal for anyone to force you have an abortion.  No one should use coercion or undue pressure to make you have an abortion.  An example of force, coercion, or undue pressure would be a parent or guardian threatening to punish you or kick you out of the house if you do not have an abortion.

  • If someone is threatening you or making you feel unsafe, call 911.  You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

  • Visit The Justice Foundation website for more information about your rights, including letters that help you explain your rights to your parents, the father of the baby, or your school counselor.

  • If someone forces you to go to an abortion clinic and you do not want an abortion, tell the staff there that you were forced to come, that you do not want an abortion, and that you do not consent.

No matter your situation, we are here to support you.  You have options.  Contact us today.
